This year’s Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration was presented during the annual Premiere’s Awards ceremony at the Legislative Assembly on June 15, 2016.

Mr. George Tuccaro, former Commissioner of the NWT awarded Mr. Scott Duke, Legal Counsel, with the Northern Regional Office of Justice of Canada, as the recipient of the 2016 Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.
Throughout his career, Mr. Duke has made a significant contribution to the field of public administration in the Northwest Territories. He has worked in both private and public sector law since being called to the Law Society of the NWT in 1992. In his role as legal counsel, Mr. Duke has, and continues to demonstrate leadership, innovation, accomplishment and values.
Mr. Duke has an expansive knowledge and a keen understanding of the political history of the Northwest Territories, and he has always been willing to share his knowledge with his peers and colleagues.
Mr. Duke has developed expertise in Aboriginal law within the Northern Region of Justice Canada. His knowledge is based on his familiarity with case law and comprehensive land claims agreements in the NWT, and is grounded in his knowledge of the political and social history of the Territory.

The Commissioner of the Northwest Territories is the patron of this IPAC NWT Regional Group award. The Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration recognizes a public sector practitioner whose career exhibits the highest standard of excellence, dedication and accomplishment.
